Historic buildings and cemetery roads

Watch for low doorframes and steep, narrow stairs in the historic buildings. Take care on brick sidewalks. RVs, mobile homes, charter buses, and vehicles towing trailers cannot enter the National Cemetery because its approach has a narrow road and a tight turn.

Respect the homes and burial ground

The cemetery is a place for remembrance, not recreation. Follow the ranger's instructions inside the Homestead. Food, drinks, backpacks, strollers, and backpack baby carriers are prohibited on its guided tours. Ask about your group's needs before collecting tickets.

Tickets and organized groups

Homestead tours normally begin at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Staffing can reduce that schedule. Each tour admits no more than 10 visitors. Collect tickets at the visitor center on a first-come basis at least 15 minutes before departure. Tours start on the Homestead's back porch, about two and a half blocks away. The Early Home is at 201 East Depot Street. The Homestead is at 209 South Main Street. You can walk or drive between the visitor center and Homestead; parking is available at the house.
