River boating is at your own risk. Check the Middle Fork River gauge at Audra through the USGS link on the park's activities page. Assess conditions before entering the water; a campsite reservation does not indicate safe river conditions.

Leave the river corridor intact

Keep dogs restrained on a leash. Do not feed wildlife or remove plants, rocks, or historic objects. Use designated campsites and approved fire locations. The state park rules also set campground quiet hours.

Allow time for the 2.7-mile Alum Cave Trail and its overhang boardwalk. Rock Cliff Trail is 0.4 mile one way, rather than a loop; returning along the same path makes the walk about 0.8 mile.

Fishing is another way to spend time beside the river. Check current West Virginia fishing-license and trout-stamp requirements for your visit. The reservable picnic shelter offers a group alternative to camping.

Campground and day-use services

The campground has electric sites, two bathhouses, laundry, a dump station, and a playground. Ice and firewood are available through the campground store. Confirm seasonal operation before relying on campground services during a day visit.

About Audra State Park

From a lumber town to a public park

The park's name comes from the former lumber town of Audra. The site later served as a 4-H camp. The state purchased the property in 1948 and opened the park in 1950. Later additions expanded the campground and its services.

Forest habitat beside the river

White-tailed deer, squirrels, and birds use the surrounding forest. Rhododendron grows among maple, oak, and pine. Keep wildlife viewing incidental to your walk, and leave animals enough space to move away.
