The bridge and the creek

RVs and vehicles towing trailers cannot use the one-lane Echo Dell Road bridge. Approach the park office, Wildlife Education Center, Gaston’s Mill and Pioneer Village from the south in a large vehicle. For paddling, wear a personal flotation device and assess hazards and swift currents. The park has no swimming area.

Use the right trail

Keep cycling to designated mountain-bike routes rather than hiking-only trails. Dogwood and Upper Vondergreen include technical sections. Hunting takes place in designated areas under Ohio regulations; consult the park about boundaries and seasonal access before combining a walk with a hunting-season visit.

Campground reservations

All campers must reserve. Use the official Reserve Ohio park listing for dates and current charges. The family-camp closure applies despite older year-round or off-peak descriptions; a booking link does not establish that a particular unit is available.

Find the day-use area and separate camps

The park’s visitor address is 12021 Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool, OH 43920-9719. The family campground is on Leslie Road; the primitive equestrian camp is on Sprucevale Road. Use the ODNR park map to distinguish these locations and choose the correct approach.

Choose a walk, historic stop or paddle

For a short hiking-only route, ODNR lists the 0.3-mile Overlook Trail and the half-mile Fitness Trail as easy. Lower Vondergreen extends 3.25 miles and is rated moderate. Check the trail map when choosing between walking-only and shared routes.

The Pioneer Village includes a gristmill, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, chapel, covered bridge and restored canal lock. Volunteers operate it, so confirm demonstration or building-opening dates instead of assuming every structure will be staffed.

Paddling is the way to travel the creek by boat. Anglers can fish for smallmouth and rock bass; Ohio requires a fishing license from age 16. The mill pond is designated for youth fishing.

Picnic areas and limited camping amenities

Three picnic areas provide tables, grills and restrooms. The family campground has pit toilets but no working shower house; the main park notice also says there is no camper filling station, although a drinking fountain and bottle-fill station are available. Check those specific services and the construction closure before preparing an RV stay. The separate Sprucevale Road equestrian camp has horse tie-ups. Confirm its operating dates and potable-water availability with the park before a stay; do not depend on a year-round water supply.

Water power and canal remnants

Gaston’s Mill dates to 1837, when creekside water power supported local industry. Remains of the Sandy and Beaver Canal add another layer of transport history. Beaver Creek became a state park in 1949, the year Ohio created ODNR.

Forests, ridges and bottomlands

Forested slopes and creek bottomlands support a mix of habitats. ODNR records hemlock, birches and mountain laurel in the valley, with mammals such as red fox, raccoon and white-tailed deer. Species records describe the habitat; sightings remain unpredictable.
