Forillon National Park occupies the northeast end of Quebec's Gaspé Peninsula, with sea cliffs, forest trails, and the fishing heritage of Grande-Grave. Its northern and southern visitor areas offer different starting points. Seasonal services have finished for 2026, so an off-season walk requires different preparation from a staffed summer visit.

Coastal views and fishing history

• Cap-Bon-Ami: A northern coastal viewpoint brings the cliffs and sea close to the road-access area.
• Cap-Gaspé: Les Graves leads toward the lighthouse, with markedly different distances depending on your trailhead.
• Prélude-à-Forillon: This 0.5 km loop uses a wooden walkway between woods and the shore.
• Grande-Grave: Historic buildings explain the coastal communities and fishing economy that preceded the park.

Prepare for the route and season

Choose a trailhead before estimating a walk. Les Graves is 15.2 km return from Grande-Grave, while its gravel-road option from L'Anse-aux-Amérindiens is 6.4 km return. These are different outings. Off-season, allow for unmaintained surfaces and closed services rather than relying on summer trail facilities.

Slow down on park roads and give wildlife room to move. Do not surround an animal or block its path for a photograph. Check specific land and sea guidance if your plans include exposed trails or water activities.

Leave fossils and shoreline habitats intact

Plants, animals, fossils, rocks, and driftwood are protected. Keep them where you find them. Pets must stay on a leash no longer than 3 m and cannot enter service buildings; identified service animals follow separate access rules. Camp only at designated sites with a permit. Recreational drones are prohibited.

Camping and activity arrangements

Use Parks Canada for campsite and roofed-accommodation reservations, including oTENTiks, micrOcubes, and Ôasis units. A listed accommodation does not establish off-season availability. Commercial boat and kayaking experiences have their own operators and schedules. Confirm the season before paying for travel.

Maps, location, and access

Choose between the North Area toll booth at 1440 Cap-des-Rosiers Boulevard and the South Area toll booth at 2286 Grande-Grève Boulevard, both in Gaspé. Penouille is another distinct visitor area. Download the park, sector, and campground maps before choosing an approach. A general park pin does not identify the best entrance for every walk.

• Parc national de l'Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé: Follow Route 132 toward Percé. Bonaventure Island requires a seasonal passenger boat from the wharf; the 2026 visitor season ended October 12.
• Parc national de la Gaspésie: A longer regional option reached via Route 132 to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, then Route 299 south.

Select a walk by its starting point

Prélude-à-Forillon provides a short introduction to the northern shore. La Chute is only a 1 km loop, but includes steep slopes and stairs on the way to a waterfall. Mont-Saint-Alban climbs to a viewing tower; the approach from Cap-Bon-Ami starts steeply. Use the official trail descriptions for distances, access points, and restrictions.

During the operating season, heritage visits add context to the coastal scenery. Wildlife watching can include marine mammals from shore, but sightings and conditions vary.

Facilities and accessibility

Petit-Gaspé is in the South Area; Des-Rosiers and tent-only Cap-Bon-Ami are in the North Area. Seasonal camping options include electricity at selected sites, water outlets, and service buildings. Des-Rosiers lists an adapted toilet and shower. Parks Canada warns that campground running water can sometimes be nonpotable and recommends bringing your own supply.

Prélude-à-Forillon has a raised wooden walkway. At Penouille, an adapted cart helps visitors cross the initial 10% slope, and a summer access mat improves the approach over sand. These are specific seasonal provisions rather than a promise of unrestricted access. Consult the mobility information and confirm equipment availability.

Coastal communities and Indigenous connections

Grande-Grave's buildings preserve part of the peninsula's fishing history. The park also presents the heritage of families expropriated during its creation. In 2024, the Nation Micmac de Gespeg and Canada announced an agreement establishing a framework for shared governance, conservation, traditional activities, and cultural heritage.

Forests beside marine habitat

Forested routes pass habitat used by bears, porcupines, and beavers. The coast provides opportunities to look for seabirds and seals, while whales may be visible offshore. Watch without calling, feeding, or following animals, and keep to marked paths through sensitive habitat.
