Georgian Bay Islands National Park protects islands near Honey Harbour, Ontario. Beausoleil Island has the park's visitor trails, campgrounds, docks, and roofed accommodations. You cannot drive onto it. Arrange the boat journey first, because a day visit, tent campsite, and cabin stay use different transport arrangements.

Fees, hours, and seasonal access

Plan for water travel and limited services

Check wind and marine weather before setting out. Bring food, drinking water, insect repellent, sturdy footwear, and clothing for rain or cooler conditions. Save the return time and be back at the agreed landing before departure. Children need close supervision around water, docks, and shorelines.

Private boaters need a suitable navigation plan and safety equipment, including lifejackets. Weather can require a change of plan. The park's preparation guidance covers supplies, weather, and access questions.

Protect island habitats

Stay on designated routes and leave natural and cultural objects untouched. Pack out waste and store food where wildlife cannot reach it. Pets must remain under physical control on a leash no longer than 3 m or in suitable confinement. Confirm transport and accommodation pet restrictions separately. Campground quiet hours run from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Choose transport for your type of stay

Use the official transport instructions and licensed-operator list. Confirm the departure point and return service when booking. Dock space is first come, first served and requires a mooring permit.

Maps, location, and access

For Honey Harbour, leave Highway 400 at exit 156 and follow Honey Harbour Road, also called Muskoka District Road 5. The mainland road journey ends before the island visit begins. Private boaters are directed to nautical chart 2202; the park does not have its own mainland boat-launch facility, though local marinas offer services.

The official trail information and island map help you choose walks from your actual landing. Do not use the Midland administration office as the boat departure point.

• Six Mile Lake Provincial Park: A road-access option off Highway 400 at 2024 Joe King's Road, Port Severn. Its listed 2026 camping/day-use season ended October 13.
• Awenda Provincial Park: A mainland outing in Tiny, reached at 670 Awenda Park Road. Plan it before or after the island boat trip.

Match the walk to your landing

The southern trails pass through varied forest, while northern routes cross rockier terrain and wetland habitat. Fairy Trail is a 2.5 km loop; the shorter Heritage Loop focuses on cultural history. Allow enough time to return to your booked landing rather than choosing a trail from its length alone.

Some trails permit bicycles, while others are walking routes. Use posted designations and the map. The Georgian Trail is described for advanced cyclists, so a bike rental is not a reason to assume every route suits a casual ride.

Facilities and accessibility

Cedar Spring has potable-water taps, food lockers, showers, flush toilets, and composting toilets. Other camping and docking areas have pit or composting toilets and fewer services. Cabins and oTENTiks provide roofed stays, but their facilities differ. Cedar Spring's visitor kiosk offers information and seasonal purchases.

A wheelchair-accessible dock, washrooms, showers, camping, and trails are listed at Cedar Spring. Boat boarding, ramps, natural surfaces, and water conditions still require individual planning. Contact staff about your mobility device before booking transport. Parking is available for park-accommodation guests; paid parking also exists around Honey Harbour.

About the island park

Bimadinaagogi and Anishinaabe history

Beausoleil Island, known as Bimadinaagogi by the Anishinaabeg, has long been a place of habitation, gathering, ceremony, and travel. Its national historic site designation recognizes this cultural landscape, including traditions associated with women and the history of displacement during expanding European settlement.

A meeting of northern and southern habitats

Wetlands, forests, and exposed Shield rock support reptiles, amphibians, and other wildlife in a small area. Massasauga rattlesnakes are among the protected animals. Watch the ground as well as the shoreline, and give animals space rather than handling or pursuing them.
