Check Sépaq's admission options before buying access. Accommodation and paid activities have separate charges.

Prepare for a visit without staffed services

Carry water, food and a map. Outside staffed periods, trails remain accessible on a self-sufficient basis, with no guarantee of maintained conditions. Ask about roads and expected weather before leaving. Follow the non-potable water notice for Taschereau and La Demoiselle cabin. Bring drinking water for affected locations.

Respect closures and lake protection

Les Paysages trail and the Garde-Feu tower are closed until further notice. Read the daily park notices before choosing a route. Clean, drain and inspect a personal boat before arrival at Lac Loïs. Dogs may use only designated places under the park's conditions.

Book the stay and the activity separately

Free admission for children still requires authorized park access. Use Sépaq to reserve a campsite or other accommodation. A backcountry expedition needs its own access permit. Confirm the permit conditions before planning a route beyond the developed network. A park admission purchase does not reserve equipment.

Maps, location, and entrance choice

The Mont-Brun entrance is reached on route d'Aiguebelle beyond the village of Mont-Brun. From Rouyn-Noranda, the official approach uses Route 101 through D'Alembert and Cléricy. Taschereau serves a different side of the park. Use the official directions and maps to select the entrance for your trail or accommodation.

Other parks in the wider region

Parc national d'Opémican is farther south in Témiscamingue, with access from Route 101. Esker Lakes Provincial Park is across the Ontario border, on Highway 672 near Kirkland Lake. Both require a separate regional drive; choose their actual entrance before setting out.

Hiking and seasonal lake outings

The hiking network includes suspended and floating bridges and other structures that reveal the terrain. Select an open route rather than assuming every viewpoint is available. Canoeing on the fault lakes and kayaking on Lac Loïs offer a different perspective during their operating seasons. Confirm rental dates before making paddling the purpose of a trip.

Service centers and adapted equipment

Mont-Brun and Taschereau have seasonal reception and rental services. The La Castorière discovery trail has adaptations for reduced mobility. Ask staff which route and equipment are suitable for your needs; a loan device is subject to the operator's conditions and availability. Closed reception buildings do not provide a staffed arrival service.

Protecting the Abitibi landscape

The park was created in 1985. It protects part of the Abitibi clay belt, where volcanic Abijévis hills rise above the surrounding landscape. Its many lakes and contrasting landforms are central to its conservation purpose.

Forest and lake wildlife

Moose, beavers, mink, herons and ospreys occur in the park. Watch quietly from an open route or permitted lake access. Their presence does not guarantee an encounter.
