Combine exhibits with a coastal walk
Start with the exhibitions to understand why the fossil cliff matters. Displays connect fish anatomy and fossil preservation with the transition toward four-limbed vertebrates. The Elpistostege room gives one specimen a specific place in that story.
When the trail operates, the 3.5 km Evolution of Life loop uses interpretation panels to explain changes in life through time. A shore visit below the cliff is a different outing, subject to the tide and staff guidance. Family interpretation and laboratory activities depend on the seasonal program.
Museum services and accessibility
The natural-history exhibition building, Le Dévonien snack counter, and the shop provide access for visitors with reduced mobility. That building access does not imply that the cliff or outdoor trail is accessible.
Food sales and visitor services follow the operating season. For an overnight trip, use accommodation in the surrounding communities; there is no park campground or lodging to reserve here.

Protecting a scientific collection and its source
Québec acquired part of the fossil cliff in 1972. A first museum opened in 1978, and park status followed in 1985. A later museum and research center opened in 2003.
The site is on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its fossil record of the Devonian. Its importance concerns the quality and evolutionary value of the preserved specimens, rather than an opportunity for visitors to collect them.
Present-day plants beside the fossil cliff
The park also supports living coastal vegetation, including wild orchids. Stay on the paths to avoid trampling these plants. The animals presented in the main fossil exhibitions belong to the ancient record, not a promise of wildlife sightings today.
