About this park

History

Comanche people used the native pecan groves in the area before it became a state park. Texas acquired the property from the city of Abilene in 1933. Civilian Conservation Corps crews developed its facilities, and the park opened on May 10, 1934. The surviving stonework connects today’s recreation grounds with that period of public construction.

Wildlife and habitat

The park lies in the Callahan Divide, where short prairie grasses and brushland meet wooded creek valleys.
