The park covers 5,328 acres, and is one of the most diverse in all of Texas. There is something for everyone here – from easy hikes, to kayaking, to off-road exploration, to star gazing.

The entire area was once an ancient river valley, formed thousands of years ago. Here, within the park, brave ancient hunters navigated, and the first inhabitants of this area set down their roots. Much of the local flora, like black-eyed susans, and bushy bluestem grass, owe their existence to the ancient river.

The Gorman Falls in the park is a unique site, and an absolute must see. The falls are surrounded by 80-foot walls of limestone that are lushly landscaped with ferns and mosses. Visiting Gorman Falls is a treat; it's easy to see why it's one of the main attractions at Colorado Bend State Park.

The park is a haven for wildlife. It is home to a variety of species such white-tailed deer, grey foxes, armadillos, river otters, and bobcats. Birding enthusiasts can enjoy some of the park's many bird species including bald eagles and red tailed hawks.

For those looking to explore, there are over 35 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy to challenging. You can explore high hills and deep canyons, or chase a cool stream. The Spicewood Springs trail is a popular choice for visitors. This trail passes by dramatic rock cliffs and offers beautiful views of the Colorado River.

The Colorado River is the centerpiece of the park and is heavily utilized for kayaking, swimming, and fishing. Some of the native fish include catfish, largemouth bass, and sunfish. The lake is also a scenic spot for camping, and there are primitive camping sites available.

Since its establishment in 1984, Colorado Bend State Park has been a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. With its diverse and awe-inspiring beauty, its plentiful wildlife, and its numerous activities and attractions, Colorado Bend State Park is a nature-lover’s paradise.
