About Alewife Brook Reservation

History

A constructed wetland opened to the public in October 2013 as part of Cambridge’s flood and sewer-management work. The city project record documents the wetland basin, planting, boardwalk and path work. That restoration is one part of the wider state reservation.

Wildlife and habitat

The reservation combines urban woodland and wetland habitat used by a variety of birds and other wildlife. Around the constructed wetland, native plants also help clean stormwater and reduce flooding. Look from the paths and deck, and let the vegetation remain undisturbed.
