Boulder Beach State Park is a seasonal day park on Lake Groton in northeastern Vermont. Plan a beach and picnic visit during its operating season in Groton State Forest.

A sandy beach backed by Groton State Forest

The 200-foot beach, shaded picnic sites and car-top launch make it possible to keep a summer day close to the water. The nearby Groton Nature Center adds exhibits about the forest, its wildlife and local history.

Fees, hours, and seasonal access

Check swimming conditions during the beach season

No lifeguard patrols Boulder Beach. Supervise children closely. Consult the state’s swimming-water report before a beach visit. Testing ends with the park season or September 30, whichever comes first. Ask park staff about off-season access; a summer water result does not establish current conditions.

Leave pets at home

Pets are not permitted in this park. Keep a lakeside meal within the picnic area and use the boat wash station when preparing a car-top boat.

Arrange a group pavilion in advance

The pavilion seats up to 100 people and has no electricity. Its rental costs USD 175, plus a USD 8 nonrefundable reservation fee. A USD 100 compliance deposit applies. Admission is separate, and cancellation incurs a USD 25 nonrefundable fee. Reservations open eleven months ahead. Use the official Boulder Beach page to arrange a gathering.

Find Lake Groton’s eastern shore

Use 2278 Boulder Beach Road, Groton, VT 05046. From Groton, follow US 302 west, then VT 232 northwest and Boulder Beach Road east. The park map and guide marks parking, beach and launch.

Two nearby forest parks

Kettle Pond State Park and Ricker Pond State Park are short drives within the Groton State Forest area. Check their own operating arrangements before adding either stop.

Combine a beach visit with forest interpretation

• Swim only when beach conditions allow, with a responsible adult watching children.
• Bring a picnic and choose a shaded table.
• Visit the Groton Nature Center when it operates. Its exhibits and programs have no admission charge.

For a forest walk, use the trail hub behind the nature center. A bridge repair closes part of Peacham Bog Loop between Little Loop and Coldwater Brook Road. Check that closure before choosing a route.

Beach services within the seasonal park

Visitor facilities include flush toilets, cold running water, changing rooms and a playground. Seasonal offerings include a concession and boat rentals. Confirm rental and concession availability before making them essential to your plan.

About Boulder Beach and its forest setting

Vermont’s Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation manages this Lake Groton recreation site. The park takes its name from rocks that glaciers left along the shore.

A landscape shaped by glaciers and logging

Nineteenth-century farmers cut the surrounding forest for lumber, fuel and potash. Groton State Forest now combines recreation, wildlife habitat and timber management.
