The park gets its name from the Pedernales River, which creates a long line of cascading waterfalls as it flows through the park. Climb up the limestone steps to take in panoramic views of the falls and surrounding canyons. Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that inhabit the park, which includes white-tailed deer, armadillos, turkey, and coyotes.

The Pedernales River has formed the park’s striking blue-green pools, which are the perfect spot for a family picnic or a day of fishing, swimming, and kayaking. The park was established to protect and preserve the fragile landscape, steeped in lush plants and abundant wildlife. And, no trip to the park is complete without a visit to the park’s butterfly garden, home to an array of colorful species.

The park is open daily, but hours and fees vary by season. Pedernales Falls State Park is pet friendly, but pets are not allowed in the river or pools.
