Inks Lake State Park - map, photos and other informations

Description

Inks Lake State Park is a 1,200 acre oasis in the Texas Hill Country. Part of the Lower Colorado River Authority, the park lies along Inks Lake, a small lake created by the LCRA a few years after the area was acquired. The lake is held in place by the Buchanan Dam, which was built in the 1930s and has been releasing water since 1951. The lake and the soil around it, part of the Colorado River watershed, provide the lake with an ecosystem that supports activities like fishing, swimming and boating. The park also provides cabins, camping and picnic grounds, as well as nearly 20 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horse trails.

The park's diverse landscape can trace its history back to the 1930s when Inks Dam was completed and the lake created. The 32 million gallons of water held by the dam, plus the area's naturally occurring streams and creeks, have become home to a variety of wildlife. Bird watching is a popular activity here, as more than 200 species have been documented living in and around the park. The terrain includes rocky hills, rolling valleys, and wetlands, all of which add to the diversity of the landscape.

Inks Lake State Park provides a wide array of recreational activities and amenities, making it an ideal getaway spot. Swimming is popular in the lake's crystal clear water, and fishing is also a main attraction. Primitive campsites are available for those who prefer to stay overnight, and the park has many full service campsites, complete with showers and RV hookups. Visitors can also take advantage of the tennis courts, horseshoe and volleyball pits, and an 18 hole disc golf course.

The park also contains Balanced Rock Nature Center and Vanishing Texas River Cruise. The park is a popular destination for day trips, and offers hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as a bike rental station. From the shoreline, visitors can enjoy lovely views of Inks Lake, which has become a popular destination for birdwatching and wildlife photography. With its lush plants, diverse wildlife, and miles of trails, Inks Lake is the perfect oasis for those looking to relax and reconnect with nature.
