Iluiliq National Park Reserve in Quebec, Canada - map and visitor information

Réserve de parc national Iluiliq is a provincially registered protected area in northern Québec, Canada. It includes both land and a marine component. Its reserve designation should be distinguished from the Iluiliq national park creation project, which the Québec government describes separately.

Iluiliq’s protection status

Québec’s March 2026 protected-area register lists Iluiliq as a réserve de parc national du Québec under IUCN management category II. The responsible body is Québec’s Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs.

This is a Québec designation. It is separate from the federal national park reserve system managed by Parks Canada. The official reserve register records the protected territory and its administrative responsibility.

Location and recorded area

The register places Iluiliq at the northern end of Québec and records a total area of 777.49 square kilometers. Its components are approximately 748.47 square kilometers of land and 29.02 square kilometers of marine territory.

The register’s location point identifies the territory. Use an official boundary map when examining its extent; a general map-search result is not a visitor entrance or landing place.

Conservation and the Hudson Strait project

The reserve’s land and marine components form part of Québec’s protected-area network. Conservation objectives take priority in the criteria used to recognize territories in that network.

Québec’s separate description of the Iluiliq national park project highlights Hudson Strait fjords with rock walls reaching 300–400 meters. The government also identifies archaeological sites and rare plants as features of that project territory.

Inuit participation in park planning

The Iluiliq park project stems from the 2002 Sanarrutik agreement between Québec, Makivik, and the Kativik Regional Government. The agreement addresses economic and community development in Nunavik, including national parks.

The Inuit communities of Ivujivik and Salluit participate in the park-creation process. Inuit chose the Inuktitut name Iluiliq.
