There is no lifeguard at the swimming area. Use only the designated seasonal area and respect closures. Do not assume an open Jungle Trail means its closed boardwalk can be crossed.

Keep pets restrained or on a leash no longer than six feet in permitted outdoor areas. Dogs cannot enter the swimming area or its surroundings. Prevent pets from disturbing wildlife.

About this park

History

The state purchased the land in 1934. During the Great Depression, Civilian Conservation Corps crews developed the park, including an African American detachment. Interpretive signs connect visitors with that work, and some original features remain.

Wildlife and habitat

River swamp, bottomland hardwoods and sandhill pine forest create different habitats within one park. White-tailed deer, beavers, reptiles and birds of prey are recorded, alongside pitcher plants. Look from established routes and leave plants in place.
