Entrance fees	A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry. For non-Michigan vehicles, the rate is USD 12 daily or USD 42 annually. Nonresident annual passports expire December 31 of the purchase year. Michigan passenger vehicles use an annual passport: USD 15 at registration renewal, with a USD 5 convenience fee for other purchases when applicable. Camping costs extra. See passport options.

Seasonal access and closures	The published Riverfront reservation season is March 22–November 29, with local-sale semi-modern camping in winter. Wagon Wheel is listed May 15–October 21. Full hookup water service stops October 22–April 15. Confirm the operating schedule for your stay.

Safety information

DNR advises wearing a life jacket when paddling, checking for ticks, and carrying water and a map. Tell someone your route and return time. Follow posted notices around the river and shooting range.

Visit responsibly

Stay on designated trails to protect habitat. Keep pets on a six-foot leash and remove waste. Use local or certified heat-treated firewood under the state park rules.

Reservations and permits

Campsites can be reserved six months ahead. Pavilions can be reserved one year ahead. A nonrefundable booking fee is USD 8 online or USD 10 through the call center. Call the park for the rustic group-use site.

For GPS, DNR recommends 8970 River Road, Clay Township, Michigan 48001. This differs from the park's listed office address. Use the official park page for park and trail map links.

Nearby parks

Lakeport State Park is north of Port Huron. Its day-use area has a Memorial Day–Labor Day season, separate from campground access.
Belle Isle Park is a regional drive toward Detroit. Central Avenue through the Flatwoods closes December 1–March 31.

Things to do

Follow the Bridge to Bay Trail through the park on foot or by bicycle.
Use the small launch for a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard, subject to conditions.

Facilities and accessibility

Riverfront and Wagon Wheel offer different campsite settings. DNR identifies accessible sites in both. The north Riverfront full hookup section has no shared restrooms or showers. Verify the facilities attached to your selected campsite.

About this park

History

Algonac State Park was established in 1937 after the state acquired riverfront land. Its early recreation development focused on views of shipping along the St. Clair River.

Wildlife and habitat

Lake plain prairie and oak savanna support uncommon plants, birds, and butterflies. Protect these habitats by remaining on established paths.
