Babia Góra National Park in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland - map and visitor information
Research checked: . Check linked official notices before travel.
Babia Góra National Park protects the Polish side of the Babia Góra massif in Lesser Poland. Its marked trails lead from forest to exposed upper slopes and the summit of Diablak. Choose your starting point before setting out: Krowiarki and Zawoja Markowa lead into different approaches, while the park office is elsewhere in Zawoja.
Forest approaches and the Babia Góra ridge
- Diablak and Sokolica: the red ridge trail connects these high points. Treat the upper mountain as a weather-dependent hike, rather than a guaranteed viewpoint.
- Markowe Szczawiny: the green trail from Zawoja Markowa provides a forest approach of 3.6 km to this trail junction.
- Górny Płaj: this blue route offers another way to explore the mountain below the summit ridge. Consult the route map before linking it to an ascent.

Fees, hours, and seasonal access
| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| Park admission | A one-day ticket costs PLN 10 per person at the standard rate or PLN 5 at the reduced rate. Children under 7 are exempt. Carry proof of eligibility for a concession. Confirm the current tariff before visiting. |
| Parking | Parking is a separate charge. Zawoja Markowa has its own posted parking tariff; a park entry ticket does not pay for parking. |
| Seasonal access | Akademicka Perć may close when conditions become unsafe. Ski routes are currently closed. Consult the park visitor notice before choosing a route. |
Wind, ice, and short days
Strong wind, storms, cold, and ice can make this mountain dangerous. Match the route to the least experienced person in your party. Carry warm layers, a light, and a charged phone. Check the mountain forecast and avalanche advice when relevant; conditions at your lodging may differ from those higher up.
Protect the mountain habitats
Walk on marked trails and leave plants, fungi, and rocks in place. Pet dogs are prohibited except on the Mokry Kozub path in the landscape-protection area. Do not assume that a dog can accompany a summit hike. Keep wildlife undisturbed and take all litter away.
Tickets, groups, and special permission
Buy admission through the official ticket information or the listed park sales points. Organized tours require an authorized mountain guide with a valid park license; one guide may lead no more than 30 people. Drone flights require the park director’s permission.
Choose the correct trailhead
The park lies in the municipalities of Zawoja, Lipnica Wielka, and Jabłonka. Its entrance and parking page identifies Zawoja Markowa, Krowiarki Pass, and Stańcowa. Select the entrance that matches your planned trail. The headquarters address below is an office address, not a substitute for a trailhead.
Nearby parks
- Żywiecki Park Krajobrazowy: look west toward the Jeleśnia and Pilsko area for a separate road-based outing.
- Gorce National Park: Poręba Wielka provides a road-accessible starting area farther east. Plan it as a separate visit.
Build a walk around the marked routes
Use the official hiking route list to choose an ascent or a lower route. A return walk from Markowa and a ridge traverse require different plans for getting back to your starting point. The permanent exhibition at the park headquarters provides an indoor introduction to the massif; confirm its opening hours before traveling specifically for it.
Information points and the exhibition
Tourist and nature information points operate at Krowiarki and Zawoja Markowa. Admission is also sold at the permanent exhibition at Zawoja 1403. Use the park office to discuss particular access needs rather than treating a marked mountain trail as proof of a step-free route.
A protected mountain with distinct vegetation zones
Protection history
The regulation establishing Babiogórski Park Narodowy was issued on October 30, 1954. Earlier reserve protection helped preserve the upper mountain before the national park was created.
Habitats and wildlife
The massif supports different plant communities at different elevations. Its forests and upper slopes provide habitat for numerous protected plants, fungi, and animals. Staying on the path protects these communities as well as the ground underfoot.
