Safety information
The park prohibits entry to its forest areas and waters during winds with gusts above 60 km/h. Check weather before deciding on a lake outing or forest walk. Do not treat the normal water season as an assurance of safe conditions on a particular day.
Visit responsibly
Do not use combustion or hybrid motors on the designated recreation waters. Keep boats out of reeds and floating-leaved plant beds. Moor only where the park permits it; private jetties require the owner’s consent. On land, cycling is prohibited on educational-path sections that do not coincide with a cycling trail.
Reservations and permits
Buy a park entrance card for the applicable protected areas through the park’s linked ticket service. Fishing requires its own license. Individual museum visitors do not need to notify the museum in advance, but organized groups and guided weekday visits must arrange a reservation. The museum’s visitor page sets out those separate arrangements.
Maps, location, and access
The park is in Podlaskie Voivodeship, east of Suwałki. Krzywe 82 is the headquarters and visitor-information base for the Las path. The museum is at Stary Folwark 50, a separate destination. Use the Krzywe visitor information page for route advice and official navigation rather than using a general lake-center pin.
Nearby parks and protected areas
- Suwalski Park Krajobrazowy: the Malesowizna–Turtul area is reached by road from the Suwałki region; works around the Turtul pond may affect the immediate surroundings.
- Biebrza National Park: continue south toward the Biebrza valley for a separate wetland visit, with Osowiec-Twierdza providing visitor information.
Things to do
Walk the Las educational path from Krzywe to compare deciduous, wet and coniferous forest environments. Its boardwalk and viewpoint include a beaver pool and Lake Suchar I. For paddling or sailing, consult the designated-water rules: Lake Wigry and the Czarna Hańcza section from Czerwony Folwark to Studziany Las are among the permitted waters. The seasonal limits and closed bay still apply.
Facilities and accessibility
The Krzywe information center sells maps, entrance cards and fishing licenses, arranges guide services and guest-room reservations, and lists bicycle and specialist-equipment rental. The museum offers indoor interpretation at Stary Folwark. Match any equipment or assistance need to the actual facility before traveling; a service at Krzywe does not establish accessibility across the forest network.
About the park
History
The national park has existed since January 1, 1989, following the regulation issued in June 1988. Its protected landscape combines glacially formed lakes and terrain with forests, meadows, fields and villages.
Wildlife and habitats
The suchary are small, acidic lakes rich in humic material, often bordered by peat-moss vegetation. They form part of a wider habitat mosaic that includes water, forest and peatland ecosystems. Beaver activity is interpreted along the Las path; wildlife sightings remain unpredictable.
