Kampinos National Park in Masovian Voivodeship, Poland - map and visitor information
Research checked: . Check linked official notices before travel.
Kampinos National Park protects a forest of inland dunes and wetlands on Warsaw's northwestern edge. Known in Polish as Kampinoski Park Narodowy, it offers marked walks and cycling routes through Puszcza Kampinoska. Choose a trailhead before traveling: the forest has several access points, and the park office in Izabelin is not a single entrance for the whole park.
Dunes, wetland forest, and short walks from Warsaw
- Contrasting landscapes: sandy dune belts alternate with marshes left by the ancient Vistula river system.
- Marked hiking routes: about 360 km of trails allow both short walks near Warsaw and longer routes through the forest.
- Picnic clearings: places such as Lipków, Granica, and Roztoka combine forest access with rest areas. Using a clearing does not automatically permit a barbecue.

Fees, hours, and seasonal access
| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| Park admission | Entry to Kampinos National Park is free. Some facilities and organized uses have separate charges. |
| Visitor hours | The 2026 rules allow visits from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset. Access outside that period requires the director's permission. |
| Parking | Granica and Roztoka parking lots charge a fee through parking meters. Other park-managed lots are free under park rules; separately managed lots have their own terms. |
| Current restrictions | Permanent and temporary exhibitions in the Izabelin Education Center remain closed. October 2026 forestry work affects routes around the northern edge of Opaleń clearing; the affected trails remain open with a caution notice. Check the park's visitor notices before choosing a route. |
Prepare for sand, insects, and changing conditions
Carry a map, drinking water, food, and suitable footwear. The park advises protection against mosquitoes and ticks and checking for flooded sections before leaving. Trail markings can become harder to follow under leaves or snow. Give wild animals space rather than approaching them for a photograph.
Protect the forest and check dog restrictions
Use designated routes. Cycling across the dunes damages vegetation, even where the ground looks bare. Dogs are excluded from most of the park; exceptions include named clearings, parking areas, public roads, and the specified blue-trail section from Brochów toward Famułki Brochowskie. Assistance dogs have a separate legal exception. Review the official dog-access guidance for the exact permitted areas.
Permissions for activities beyond an ordinary walk
Horse riding, organized recreational events, and fires or barbecues require written permission under the 2026 park rules. Fires are limited to designated places. Arrange educational sessions with the relevant park center in advance. Camping is prohibited.
Choose a trailhead and check the route
The main forest lies between the Vistula and Bzura rivers in Masovia. Izabelin, Lipków, Truskaw, Granica, and Roztoka serve different parts of the trail network. The official arrival guide gives directions for individual destinations. Some approaches use cobbled roads; do not assume that a route to headquarters also takes you to your chosen walk.
Other protected areas around Warsaw
Chojnowski Park Krajobrazowy lies south of Warsaw around Piaseczno and Konstancin-Jeziorna; reach its forest access points by the public-road network. Mazowiecki Park Krajobrazowy lies on Warsaw's southeastern side around Otwock, requiring a separate drive across the metropolitan area.
Walk, cycle, or pause at a clearing
For a short visit, combine a marked forest walk with a rest at a designated clearing. Longer-distance walkers can use the connected east–west trails and their linking paths. Use the map to connect the marked routes and return to your chosen starting point.
Bring a bicycle to an established parking area and follow routes available to cyclists. Keep to the existing track instead of making a parallel path through vegetation. Where routes are shared, pedestrians have priority under the park rules.
Parking and rest areas
Park clearings provide facilities such as benches and shelters; Lipków and Truskaw also have playgrounds. Facilities differ between locations. Park only in designated spaces, not on roadside verges. The closed Izabelin exhibitions should not be treated as an indoor fallback for a rainy walk.
A protected forest beside the capital
Protection since 1959
The park was established on January 16, 1959, following the work of Jadwiga and Roman Kobendza. Its dune-and-marsh pattern reflects the former Vistula valley. Active restoration complements strictly protected areas within the forest.
Moose and wetland habitats
Moose, the park's emblem, returned through a restoration program begun in 1951. Roe deer, wild boar, beavers, and otters also occur in the forest and waterways. These are protected habitats, rather than a guarantee of a close wildlife encounter.
