Polesie National Park in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland - map and visitor information

Research checked: . Check linked official notices before travel.

Polesie National Park protects peatlands, shallow lakes, and wetland forests around Urszulin in eastern Poland. Poleski Park Narodowy is best explored by choosing a named nature path and its own starting village. Boardwalks bring visitors into marsh habitats, while birdwatching routes follow pond embankments. The museum at Stare Załucze is closed for renovation.

Choose a wetland landscape to explore

  • Dąb Dominik: forest tracks and boardwalks lead to Lake Moszne, where a floating mat of peat-forming vegetation illustrates how a lake becomes overgrown.
  • Czahary: boardwalks cross Bagno Bubnów, with platforms and observation towers overlooking open peatland.
  • Perehod: a birdwatching path follows the Pieszowola ponds, with two observation towers and a bird hide.

Fees, hours, and seasonal access

TopicDetails
Nature-path admissionDąb Dominik, Spławy, Perehod, Obóz Powstańczy, and Czahary require tickets. A single visit to one chosen path costs PLN 7 standard or PLN 3.50 reduced per person. A one-day ticket for all paths costs PLN 16 standard or PLN 8 reduced. Confirm current rates on the official ticket page.
Path hoursVisitors may use the designated paths from dawn to dusk. Weather and posted restrictions still apply.
Urszulin center hoursThe Education and Administration Center opens daily April–September, 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; daily in October, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; and weekdays November–March, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. These are center hours, not permission for night access to the paths.
Museum closureThe Education and Museum Center in Stare Załucze remains closed until further notice during renovation. Check park notices before planning an indoor visit.

Treat boardwalk conditions as part of the route

Rain, fog, frost, and fallen leaves can make the wooden walkways slippery. Stay on the designated surface and follow instructions from park staff and signs. Do not step into the peatland to pass another visitor or get closer to wildlife. The park also warns that drought can increase the risk of fire.

Protect peatlands and their wildlife

Leave plants, animals, nests, and antlers undisturbed. Collecting forest products and fishing are limited to designated places; a nature-path ticket does not extend those permissions. Open flames are prohibited outside designated locations. Review the park's visitor rules when arranging anything beyond a marked-path visit.

Buy the right ticket and register groups

Tickets can be purchased at the Urszulin center or through the official online channel linked from the ticket page. Groups of more than 10 visitors must notify the park administration. Professional photography and filming, and stays requiring special permission, must be agreed with the director. Do not assume that a path ticket books a guide or an educational session.

Match your destination to its starting village

Headquarters and the Education and Administration Center are at ul. Lubelska 3a in Urszulin. They are a planning stop, not the start of every path. Perehod begins at Pieszowola; Spławy begins at Stare Załucze; Czahary begins at Zastawie. The official arrival and parking guide locates each starting point.

Nearby landscape parks

Poleski Park Krajobrazowy surrounds parts of the national park in separate enclaves around Urszulin, Stary Brus, and Sosnowica. Park Krajobrazowy Pojezierze Łęczyńskie lies toward Ludwin and Uścimów, reached by a separate drive through the lake district. These are distinct landscape-park designations with their own local access arrangements.

Walk the marsh paths or watch birds from a hide

Choose Dąb Dominik to compare forest habitats with the floating vegetation of Lake Moszne. Czahary places more emphasis on open peatland and its birds. The park identifies aquatic warblers and cranes among the wildlife associated with Bagno Bubnów, although a visit does not guarantee a sighting.

Perehod offers a different surface: pond embankments rather than a continuous boardwalk. Bring binoculars and use the towers and hide to observe birds without approaching the water's edge. Spławy is another marked nature path, reached from Stare Załucze.

Parking and access features differ between paths

Free parking serves Perehod and Spławy. At Czahary, a parking area by the first tower serves cars and coaches; other designated spaces for visitors with disabilities and families with small children lie closer to boardwalk entrances. The authority identifies the Czahary boardwalks and the shorter Dąb Dominik variant as available to wheelchair users and strollers. Confirm the chosen access point and surface conditions for your needs.

Protecting a peatland system

National park protection since 1990

The park was established by the regulation of April 10, 1990. Its conservation work includes restoring water conditions and maintaining open peatlands, rather than allowing every area to develop into woodland.

Wetland species depend on water management

European pond turtles and aquatic warblers are among the species receiving active conservation attention. Sundews, orchids, and bog cranberry occur along the Lake Moszne habitat sequence. The relationship between water levels, vegetation, and open habitats explains why visitors must remain on the designated routes.
