Rocky terrain and remote assistance

Mountain routes can cross loose rock, uneven ground and exposed slopes. Discuss your fitness and comfort with heights before choosing a trek. Review the northern safety guidance and agree on navigation, communications and emergency arrangements with the park team.

Respect the land and its continuing use

Leave archaeological material and rock formations in place. Do not feed wildlife or fly a recreational drone. Ordinary visitor rules must be distinguished from the protected harvesting rights of James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement beneficiaries.

Kangiqsualujjuaq is the host village. It is a staging community, not a drive-in entrance to the mountain camps. Plan the northern flight connections and onward charter with the park team. Obtain the GPX or JSON navigation files from the official Kuururjuaq profile and check the intended landing and pickup points before travel.

Choose a mountain or river itinerary

A guided mountain trek can explore the upper Koroc valley and the Kauvvik area. Some summit approaches have exposed, unstable sections, so a summit should not be treated as a routine short walk. River descents and winter skiing are separate trip choices with their own equipment and transport needs.

Expedition camps and trip inclusions

Nunavik Parks' published mountain itinerary uses Upper Koroc Camp and Kauvvik Base Camp, with nights in dome shelters. The listed guided program includes meals, camping equipment and charter transfers. Ask staff which services apply to your confirmed departure; a camp name alone does not establish an independent overnight booking.

About Kuururjuaq

An Inuit travel corridor

Archaeological and historic sites record long use of the valley. Stone from Labrador found near Ungava Bay supports the valley's importance as an east–west travel corridor. Local Inuit knowledge remains part of the park experience.

Valley forests and northern wildlife

The river valley includes spruce and tamarack woodland below the alpine terrain. Arctic char inhabit the Koroc, while red and Arctic foxes and willow ptarmigan occur in the park. Ask staff about current bear activity before entering the backcountry.
