Safety information

Paths can be sandy and uneven, with exposed roots. Strong wind can break branches or trees, and severe weather can make a forest walk unsafe. Plan to finish before dark. The current visitor notice combines route conditions with the applicable restrictions.

Visit responsibly

Stay on marked trails and educational paths. Do not collect mushrooms, berries or other forest plants in the park. Swimming, water sports and camping are prohibited. These restrictions differ from activities available elsewhere in the wider Bory Tucholskie region.

Reservations and permits

The nature museum requires online registration for a specific visit slot. Confirm the reservation before traveling. Organized educational and excursion groups in the park must use a field guide or park employee. Their maximum size is 30; groups larger than 10 must also notify the park by email.

Maps, location, and access

The park occupies part of Chojnice County, within the Chojnice and Brusy municipalities. The park’s current contact page places its offices and Nature Education Center at Chociński Młyn 5. For forest walks, follow the official entrance and parking list for Klosnowo and Bachorze. Enter through the marked route network.

Nearby parks and protected areas

  • Zaborski Park Krajobrazowy: the landscape park’s Charzykowy base is reached by road in the same local area.
  • Tucholski Park Krajobrazowy: travel toward Tuchola or Woziwoda for another protected forest-and-river area southeast of the national park.

Things to do

Walk the blue Piła Młyn educational path from Bachorze or Małe Swornegacie to reach Bartuś oak. The park’s attraction descriptions also explain the Bachorze viewpoint. Cyclists can follow marked routes, while the nature museum offers an indoor alternative. Keep lake recreation plans outside the park’s prohibited activities.

Facilities and accessibility

The Nature Education Center in Chociński Młyn houses the park’s museum. Its audiovisual exhibitions cover topics such as peatlands, forests, bats, birds, dragonflies and lakes; allow more than an hour if exploring the interactive material. Parking is distributed around the forest edge. Sandy paths and roots make a route’s actual surface more useful to assess than a general accessibility label.

About the park

History

The national park was created on July 1, 1996. It protects a defined area within the much larger Bory Tucholskie forest region. The national park, surrounding landscape parks and the biosphere reserve are related conservation names, but they do not share one visitor rulebook.

Wildlife and habitats

Peatland pools and nutrient-poor lakes support dragonflies. The park’s fauna information explains that water habitats are important to their diversity. Forest walks can also reveal the relationships between trees, fungi and animals interpreted in the museum; leave natural material where it lies.
